About the Author
A.M. Leonard has lived her entire life in Upstate New York… and anywhere else a good book can take her. Raised on a rural farm by two veterinarians, Ann developed a lifelong love of animals, nature, and storytelling. Today, she writes from her small farm surrounded by thousands of acres of forest, where imagination and the natural world intertwine. When not writing, she enjoys caring for animals, wandering quiet landscapes, making music, and spending time with family.
In addition to her work as an author, A.M. Leonard is an experienced educator who brings storytelling to life through engaging, thought-provoking presentations. Drawing from both her writing process and the themes within her books, she speaks with students about creativity, identity, and the power of independent thinking. Her sessions are designed to inspire curiosity, encourage discussion, and connect literature to real-world experiences in ways that resonate with today’s young readers.
About Her Writing
Ann writes young adult fantasy that entertains while encouraging independent thought. Her stories explore identity, belonging, and real-world challenges, creating narratives that resonate beyond the page.
Her books are written for a broad audience and remain accessible and appropriate for most readers, balancing romance, humor, and teenage emotion without explicit content. While her worlds contain real stakes and darker elements, they are best described as PG-13 due to the intensity of the conflicts.
At the heart of her work is a simple belief: everyone belongs. This is reflected in characters like Raven, a biracial teenager navigating identity, power, and place in a complex world. In her own words: “I write to entertain, to challenge, and to remind readers that everyone belongs in the story.”
The Lunatics is a modern YA fantasy series where moonlight awakens hidden magic, and nothing comes without a cost. It follows Raven Callahan, a teenager whose power shifts with the phases of the moon, pulling her into a world of gods, monsters, and impossible choices. Blending mythology, emotion, and coming-of-age adventure, the series explores identity, destiny, and the price of power.
