Why write Fantasy?

Oh, that’s an easy one. Because it’s fun. It frees you to turn your imagination totally loose and ask yourself “what if?” and then answer that question however makes you happy. It takes you away from “real life” and gives you a sense of being able to fly, to work magic, to fix the broken places in the world, if only between the covers of your book. To escape the realities of your own life, good, bad or indifferent; in other words “To forget about life for awhile” as per the lyrics of Billy Joel’s Piano Man. To entertain. To dream. To become “more than.” To explore what it might be like to be someone else, to have someone else’s problems, to see life through someone else’s eyes.
